General objectives ofsustainable development

Pidula Wakepark is an environmentally friendly water sports and leisure centre for the whole family, located on Saaremaa island.

Our responsibility

We protect the nature that surrounds us

The general goals of Pidula Wakepark follow the company's responsibility towards the environment as well as society, culture, economy and quality. The company is committed to achieving the following goals:

1

Goal

Environmental protection

Pidula Wakepark focuses on conserving and protecting the environment. It is essential to ensure that all activities within the park's territory do not harm the environment.

  • Preserve and protect local biodiversity.
  • Reduce the carbon footprint.
  • Apply circular economy principles.
  • Limit the consumption of resources (heating and electricity, water, etc.).
  • Limit the use of environmentally harmful substances, including chemical-based cleaning products, air pollutants, fertilisers and pesticides.
  • Monitor and regulate the use of environmentally harmful substances.
1.1 Examples

Noise, vibration and air pollution should be avoided, and Wakepark activities must not disturb the habitats of local flora and fauna. The Odalätsi Springs are located in the immediate vicinity of the Wakepark. Additionally, the surrounding area is home to many protected species of plants and animals, and a large part of the Wakepark itself lies within Natura 2000 areas.

Sound levels should be kept as low as possible during the park's everyday opening hours. All pyrotechnics should also be avoided at evening events.

Circular economy

The Wakepark aims to implement various circular economy principles in its daily operations and business development:

Waste reuse

Find new functions for usable waste. (e.g. worn-out towels used as cleaning rags; cardboard boxes saved and used for sorting waste and, if needed, for transporting it, etc.)

Enabling repair and restoration

When items break, they should be repaired or restored to extend their life and reduce the need for new ones.

Product reuse

Existing items can be used instead of buying new ones. For example, old wakeboards can be repurposed as chairs.

Recycling

Reusing used materials and products: we prefer second-hand products to buying new ones.

Resource-saving measures

Water conservation

Water use can be reduced with water-saving technologies, such as low-flow taps and showers. Ensure all pipes and taps are in good condition and working properly.

Electricity conservation

Electricity use can be reduced by using energy-saving light bulbs, minimising the standby consumption of electronic devices and making sure no lights are left on unnecessarily.

Paper conservation

Paper can be saved by printing double-sided. Pidula Wakepark prefers to use digital documents.

Resource-efficient transport

Transport costs can be reduced by using public transport or carpooling with colleagues.

2

Goal

Sustainability

The Wakepark should follow the principles of sustainable development to minimise environmental damage. This includes both conserving resources and using renewable energy. In addition to the solar energy already used at the park, wind turbines could be installed to meet night-time energy needs and power the park's own electrical system.

Water should also be treated with as few chemicals as possible.

3

Goal

Environmental awareness

The Wakepark encourages its visitors to be more environmentally conscious. The park provides opportunities for waste sorting and recycling, and could also organise nature education programmes and events to raise awareness of environmental protection.

4

Goal

Social, cultural and economic responsibility

The Wakepark must involve other organisations and communities in its environmental work to help protect the natural values and wildlife of Saaremaa.

The park could also organise joint projects with local businesses to reduce its environmental impact.

  • Provide a safe and secure working environment.
  • Support equal rights and treatment for all people.
  • Non-discriminatory hiring, including for leadership positions.
  • Promote training, information and awareness.

  • Support the company's contribution to sustainable tourism planning and management at the local level.
